2023 Longest Day - Mission Accomplished

Our two Longest Day of Golf Challenges for 2023 have been achieved:

Challenge 1 - 72-holes of Putting at the Sandy Links Putting Course - Sunday 17 December

On a balmy, late summer Sunday afternoon (Dec 17), Alex, Harry, Caitlin and I completed the first of our Longest Day of Golf challenges for 2023 with 72-holes around the Sandy Links putting course.

Took around two and a half hours and was lots of fun enjoying the sunshine, experimenting with putters (at least I was), whacking balls up and down the hills and chatting about a whole raft of things. The putting course was set-up harder this year with many 'long' holes. Plenty of near misses, but the only hole-in-one was Alex on the 72nd hole - probably a 20 metre putt!!

However, the real feature of this day is just the opportunity for us to be in the same place at the same time for a decent amount of time, given everyone is busy. Nice reflection chat on Alex and Harry's wedding two weeks ago and the family Christmas juggle ahead. They did lose me though when discussing their costumes for the Taylor Swift concert in February - I thought they were joking!!

Challenge 2 - 72-holes of golf with the Australian Golf Team at Frankston Golf Club - Tuesday 19 December

The Australian Golf Team successfully completed its 72-hole Longest Day of Golf challenge at Frankston Golf Club on Tuesday 19 December. The team raised over $6k for cancer prevention and biomedical research programs for Cancer Council Victoria.

Sincere thanks are extended to all who donated and to the Frankston Golf Club for supporting the challenge. Very much appreciated.

A day full of good, bad and indifferent golf but more importantly lots of fun, chat, story swapping and support for each other. Gets better every year. Thanks to a great team, Matt Chesterman for leading the fundraising and especially Brian Hill and John Stamp for their invaluable support across the day.

We also welcomed new players this year - Vanessa Lionello, Kavisha Di-Pietro, Tony Craswell, David Stein, Golf Physio and Frankston GC member, Andy Gluyas and my new Son-in-Law, Harry King. Roll on 2024.
