Australian Golf Team complete 2023 Longest Day at Frankston GC

The Australian Golf Team has successfully completed it's 72-hole Longest Day of Golf challenge at Frankston Golf Club on Tuesday 19 December. The team raised over $6k for cancer prevention and biomedical research programs for Cancer Council Victoria.

Sincere thanks is extended to everyone who contributed to either the team or any of the individual members - it was greatly appreciated. Thanks also to Frankston Golf Club for allowing the team to undertake the challenge at such a superb venue.

A day full of good, bad and indifferent golf but more importantly lots of fun, chat, story swapping and support for each other. Gets better every year. Thanks to a great team, Matt Chesterman for leading the fundraising and especially Brian Hill and John Stamp for their invaluable support across the day.

We also welcomed new players this year - Vanessa Lionello, Kavisha Di-Pietro, Tony Craswell, David Stein, Golf Physio and Frankston GC member, Andy Gluyas and my new Son-in-Law, Harry King. Thanks everyone for a wonderful day - and I promise to get fitter for next year (so you won't have to listen to me crap on about it!!). Roll on 2024.

The Australian Golf Team is doing the 2023 Longest Day of Golf

Hi everyone, David Greenhill from the Australian Golf Team.
Summer in Australia is approaching and in December from a golf point of view, it means one thing to me and my colleagues on the Australian Golf Team – the Longest Day of Golf.

In simple terms, the Longest Day of Golf sees golfers all over Australia playing 36, 54 or 72 holes on a preferred December day to raise funds for Cancer Council prevention programs and bio-medical research for and early detection of skin cancer – a major health issue in Australia and one which is directly relevant to golfers.

Every dollar raised within a State and Territory stays with the respective Cancer Council in that State and Territory. The 2022 Longest Day of Golf raised an impressive $2.5 million through 4000 golfers undertaking the challenge across all parts of Australia.

I’ll personally be doing two Longest Day’s in 2023:

-72-holes of Longest Day putting with my two daughters and son-in-law on the Sandy Hills Putting Course at the Australian Golf Centre on Sunday 17 December.

-72-hole golf course challenge at the Frankston Golf Club in South-Eastern Melbourne on Tuesday 19 December beginning at 7am as part of an ‘Australian Golf Team’ created for the day.

I know we all get asked for support to all sorts of different things, but if you're able to donate, we'd naturally be most appreciative. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

In 2023, Longest Day challenges will also be recognised when taking place at pitch and putt facilities, mini-golf courses and golf simulator centres. All golf is golf and this Longest Day feature meets key themes emerging from the Australian Golf Strategy process, particularly the purpose to ‘inspire & support more Australians to play more golf’.

Regardless of the challenge, the Longest Day encompass all the great things we love about golf - playing our sport and taking on the game’s many skill challenges, spending quality time with family and friends and enjoying the wonderful places to play that golf offers. Plus raising funds for a worthy and relevant cause to golf.

I’ve been doing the Longest Day since 2016 and it’s a lot of fun – best thing I’ve done in golf.
