Playing in honour of my beautiful Mum Kerry who we unfortunately lost 7 years ago due to the effects of lung cancer.
My Mum Kerry was a trailblazer - and through her sacrifice & bravery, she's helped save the lives of (what I assume to be) thousands of people suffering from lung cancer. Mum was the first patient in Australia to start receiving immunotherapy for her cancer - which at the time was terminal and this served as one last roll of the dice off the back of some great research from my sister Kelly & cooperation from the doctors at the Cancer Centre at Wollongong hospital.
Mum's treatment was successful & when her life came to an end in November 2018 she was Cancer-free. Now, countless others (including my Grandmother June Warriner) received the same treatment as Mum to treat lung cancer, extending their time with their loved ones and improving their quality of life in the process.
Immunotherapy treatment is now funded by Medicare & is saving/improving the lives of countless people across the country due to the bravery Mum (and others) showed taking on the unknown.
Mum's outlook was not always positive, and those who have seen a loved one suffer probably have the same experience - but she told me at one particularly tough point in her journey - "If they can learn anything from all of this s**t they're testing that can help someone else, it's all worth it".
What a woman.
So, again, Mum, this is for you - I love you.
