Taking on The Longest Day – My Story
Just under a year ago, my life turned upside down overnight. Out of nowhere, I was diagnosed with this shit thing that no one ever expects to hear – cancer.
The months that followed were some of the toughest of my life. I went through multiple surgeries and countless setbacks, both physically and mentally. There were days I wondered how I’d get through it. But through all of it, I held on to one thought that kept me going: getting back out on the golf course.
Golf has always been more than just a game for me – it’s a place of focus, freedom, and joy. So every time I was knocked down, I reminded myself that one day I’d be strong enough to stand on the first tee again.
Now, nearly 12 months later, I can honestly say I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt. And with that strength, I’m ready to take on something big.
This year, I’ll be taking part in The Longest Day – a golf endurance challenge to raise money for the Cancer Council. The challenge is exactly what it sounds like: playing 72 holes of golf in a single day. That’s four full rounds – walking the course from sunrise to sunset. It’s tough, it’s demanding, but compared to what so many people go through every single day with cancer, it’s a challenge I’m proud to face.
I’m doing this not just for myself, but for everyone whose lives have been touched by cancer – patients, survivors, families, and loved ones. The money raised will go directly to the Cancer Council to fund life-saving research, prevention programs, and support services for those who need it most.
This past year has taught me resilience, patience, and perspective. Taking on The Longest Day is my way of celebrating how far I’ve come, while also giving back to a cause that means so much.
If you’d like to support me in this challenge, please consider making a donation. Every little bit helps, and together we can make a difference.
Here’s to golf and life – and to the magnesium spray after smashing 72 holes in one day!
