72 Holes, 1 Goal: Turning My Battle Against Cancer into Hope for Others
Cancer touches nearly every family, but my family’s reality with it has been relentless. In my immediate family alone, we have lost two loved ones and fought alongside three survivors-including myself.
This past year, that fight became deeply personal.
After 40 hours in operating rooms across 4 major surgeries, the decision was made on January 27th to remove my right eye and reconstruct my face using muscle tissue from my back. What followed was a brutal recovery, including six weeks of radiation and grueling setbacks along the way.
It was a dark, testing period. But I made a promise to myself: I am going to take all of this negativity and turn it into something good.
The Challenge: Testing Skill, Strength, and Stamina
Having spent 17 years in the military-including 10 years serving in the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR)-I am no stranger to extreme physical and mental obstacles. To honour this fight, I wanted to make my challenge as tough as possible.
This year, I am participating in The Longest Day at Maleny Golf Club to raise vital funds for life-saving cancer research.
Here is what I’m putting my body through and attempting on the day:
- Attempting 72 Holes in One Day: Completing 4 full rounds of golf back-to-back.
- On Foot & Weighted: No golf carts. I will be walking every single step while carrying my own gear-just like my days in the military.
- Undulating Terrain: Tackling one of the most physically demanding, hilly courses in the region.
Shaving It All Off: Overcoming the Final Hurdle
I haven't shaved or had a haircut since my facial reconstruction surgery on January 27th. Growing my hair and beard out has helped me cope with the self-consciousness that comes with visible facial scars.
At the end of my 72nd hole, I will be shaving my head and beard completely clean.
Exposing those scars publicly is a huge psychological barrier for me, but it pales in comparison to what cancer patients endure every day.

None of the money raised goes to me. I am doing this for my family, your family, and our children’s future, so that one day we can live in a world free of cancer.
