I've helped fund 20 hours of a research assistant’s time to work on life saving cancer research.
A Long Day for a Lifesaving Cause
Cancer doesn't discriminate. It affects families, friends, colleagues - people from all walks of life. This year, I'm taking part in The Longest Day, a golf endurance event supporting the Cancer Council.
The challenge involves playing 72 holes in one day, a tough drive for a casual golfer, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by those living with cancer.
The reality we face
In the past decade, close to one million Australians have received a cancer diagnosis. Cancer is increasingly affecting younger adults with rising incidence rates among people in their 30s and 40s, and cancer still accounts for around three out of every ten deaths in Australia. Men remain statistically more likely to be diagnosed, and the impact of cancer continues to ripple through our communities.
The progress we're making
Despite these challenges, there is hope. Cancer survival rates are steadily increasing, and mortality rates are declining for younger adults - even as incidence rises. Advances in research, early detection, and treatment are making a real difference.
Every donation helps fund research, preventions, and support services across Australia. If you'd like to support the cause, I'd be grateful for your contribution.
