Training update - Melbourne Cup Weekend

Big Bad Baaks led the way over the Melbourne Cup long weekend - playing awesome golf at Metropolitan GC and finishing T2nd in the 2023 Victorian Amputee Championship! (see https://www.golf.org.au/events#/competition/4025021/leaderboard).  The boy is ready

Myers continues his sneaky training with some running and rowing(!) while by all accounts a small whale (Power) was sighted 'swimming' a few laps during kids swimming lessons at Leisurelink Waurn Ponds.

The ultimate athlete (Marrone) is already into his taper - focusing on time on the couch watching Foxtel Sports.

5 weeks to go - no turning back

The lads are up and about

Frank has really hit his straps with his training for the big day! By all accounts some running has been involved - impressive!

Shaun and Marco are also putting the fine touches on their training regimes, with some mention of a pre game taper...

Meanwhile Steve has been sitting on his rump - going for the "hopefully its all ok on the day" scenario.

Thanks to everyone who has thrown their support behind us so far- we appreciate it!

Time to start training...

Steve's been to Rome and back enjoying himself while the other lads have been covering his work and making it through AFL Grand Final week.

The Longest Day challenge has all of a sudden got real.   It's the next big thing on each of our to do lists...  time to start doing some training I do believe!

Off and racing (?)

And so we begin.

A couple of Dads with desk jobs (Steve P carrying a bit more extra baggage than Frank!), a man with a prosthetic leg and a supreme athlete (Marco)

All very under golfed over the last 5-10 years due to various work and life activities.

We are raising funds for the Cancer Council - an organisation dear to all our hearts.  Shaun has had his own personal brush with Cancer, Frank lost his Dad to cancer in 2014, Steve lost his much loved Nan - while we have all worked in the Golf Industry for 15-20 years and have met countless people touched by Cancer.

This is a great cause - and this is the best way we can help.

Will we make it through 72 holes in a day?  At this stage very doubtful.  The bodies of Power and Myers are a huge chance to break down (time to get a bit fitter!) - we are relying on the power of the mind and lots of humour!   Shaun will play as many holes as he physically can, while Marco will be the man to keep us physically going.

With golf games in various states of disrepair - time is ticking!

Monday December 11 2023 is the big day. Only 80 days to go.

Our thanks to Geelong Golf Club for providing us with the venue to have a crack; 5:45am our 1st dash around.

We're going to keep it all interesting with the biggest game of bingo/bango/bongo played in these parts (See https://www.golfmonthly.com/features/the-game/what-is-bingo-bango-bongo-67061) and any other form of side game we can get going.

We would love your support.

We're taking on Cancer Council's The Longest Day...

...the ultimate golf challenge to complete four rounds of golf in one day!

We'll be testing our skill, strength, and stamina to raise funds for Cancer Council.

Because Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70 and we want to help change this.

Please sponsor our team today, to make every hole count!

Thank you for your generous donation. Together, let's tee off for a cancer free future.
