Getting ready Portarlington Golf Buddies

Hi everyone more than a week to go to our Longest Day 2023, the day is Monday Dec 18th 2023.
For the fourth consecutive year, I'm taking on Cancer Council's The Longest Day Golfing at my home Portarlington Golf Club.
We will tee off at 6, 9 ,12 am and 3pm.
Please join/ support us and be part of the team Portarlington Golf Buddies.
The ultimate golf challenge to complete four rounds of golf in one day. That's 72 holes!
We'll be testing our skill, strength, and stamina to raise funds for Cancer Council.
I hope my humble effort and your generosity will make a difference to the cancer patients and contribute to help the scientific research to cure this terrible disease.

Last Year Longest day 2022, so much memories reading this again.

 We did it! The team played 72 holes on Monday 12th December for the Longest Day Golf Marathon, to raise funds for cancer research.

The first round began at 6am with Darren, Gary, Ken and myself. We battled through the rain and cold wind, looked for each others balls and enjoyed some great golf. Our first birdie was on hole 12 thanks to Darren’s sensational iron shot 1.5 feet off the pin. We managed to finish the round in just under 3 hours. After a 5 minute break to get changed, we headed back out again.

The second round started at 9.10am: players Trung and Darren with Ned on the cart as caddy. We were joined by Peter half way, and struggled through the rain and gale force wind to finish in just over 3 hours. A quick sandwich for lunch and it was time to tee off again.

At 12.30pm we teed off for our third round. The wind slowed slightly and some sunshine gave the false impression of the rain being over. Ned and myself were joined by Bernard, Sueanne and Ross. Playing Ambrose was the only way to get through those conditions and to finish on time.

With Darren back on the team, we teed off at 3.15pm for our fourth round. Anna was on the cart this time, and Gary joined us as caddy for the last half hour. Strong wind and rain made another appearance from hole 13 but our high spirits persevered. We managed to play some amazing golf despite these conditions and finished in style at 6.15pm. We enjoyed the wonderful bagpipes music from the last hole to the club house thanks to Bill.

A special thanks to Darren day-long support and defiance of the testing conditions for a good cause. Another thanks to Ned, for the company and support during the majority of the day, despite the icy weather. We all had multiple jackets throughout the day!

Huge thank you to everyone for the support, donations and kind thoughts, I could have not done it without you. We can all do our bit for cancer patients and I’m looking forward to doing it again in 2023.
