Golfing for a Cause: Honouring My Parents and Fighting Cancer
This is my first time taking on The Longest Day in honour of my parents, both battling cancer. I'll be playing three rounds of golf on December 11th by walking with a buggy to push my limits and support a cause that means a lot to my family.
My father received an advanced liver cancer diagnosis early last year, just 11 months before my wedding, while my mother encountered stage 2 breast cancer a mere four months after my special day. The privilege of having them at my wedding was incredibly special, and it reminded me of how important every moment with them is.
As their only child living in distant Australia, the inability to provide the physical support they deserve weighed heavily on my heart. Yet, dealing with their illnesses has been much tougher than I ever expected, and the ongoing mental and emotional burden is an overwhelming challenge for all of us.
I want to help the Cancer Council raise money for cancer research and support other families like ours who are going through tough times. It's my way of making a difference and showing that we care.
