I'm taking on Cancer Council's The Longest Day...
I have decided to join this amazing fundraiser because quite simply, I can. It was clear that when I started playing this sport frequently that I had to be sun smart to minimize my risk of skin cancers. This fundraiser is a combination of my belief of being sun-smart and my passion of the game of golf.
On the day (11/12/2023)
-My goal is to complete 72 holes (4 rounds of golf).
-The rounds are going to be stroke (all shots counted) with no applied handicap, and played under standard stroke rules.
-Using a cart for the day
-Asking some people to caddie for each of my rounds and to sign my score card
-Updating my rounds through the website to be sure to check that through the day also
About me (golf version):
-I have been playing golf for two years now, have caught the bug and play most weekends
-Current handicap with Golf Australia is 12.1
-My competitive best score for a round is 82 which was shot out at Coomealla Gold Club (the course I will be playing the longest day at).
-I have scored birdies in my rounds but they are not common
-I make bogeys often
-I can make double bogey plus easily
-I have had a total of three eagle putts in competitions
-I have not made an eagle in a competitive round
-I have never made an albatross
-I have never had a hole in one
Donations
My fundraiser is looking for lump sum contributions, and also pledges based on my rounds. The pledges gives me goals through the day to meet, and can be interesting for those following along. Some example of pledges that can be made are you will donate $x for:
-Every birdie made (1 under par)
-If an eagle is made (2 under par)
-If an albatross is made (3 under par)
-If a hole in 1 is made
-If I complete 54holes in a single day (x3 rounds of 18hole golf)
-If I complete 72holes in a single day (x4 rounds of 18hole golf)
-If I score under 90 in a single round
-If I score under 85 in a single round
-If I score under 80 in a single round
-If my total score after 54holes is less than X
-If my total score after 72holes is less than X
My pledges
-I will donate $20 per round shot over 95
-I will donate $1 for every bogey (one over par) I shoot
-I will donate $2 for every double bogey plus on a hole
-I will donate $20 for every lost ball through the round
-I will donate $50 if I stop after 54 holes (x3 rounds of golf)
-I will donate $100 if I stop after 36 holes (x2 rounds of golf) or less
-I will donate $100 if my total score for 72 holes is equal to or more than 360 (average equivalent if I stop early)
-I will donate $50 if my total for 72 holes is equal to or less than 340
-I will donate $100 if I shoot under 80 in one of my rounds (my current personal best being 82)
-I will donate $250 if I make a hole in one on the day
